to me
When Carl came to Canada I believe he rode the rails for a while looking for work. ie. As did many newcomers he followed the railroad to see if there was work. He must have found something pretty good as he was able to start a lumber camp near the north end of Wanapeti Lake. The family lived in Markstay and Skied during this time as far as I know. I'm not sure of the details of when he met Elvira but if my memory serves me correctly it was a room mate of Elvira that he was trying to date when he met Grandma. Aunt Nancy is the best person to ask when it comes to the early times of Grandpa and Grandma. Carl sold the lumber camp and took work at a gold mine which was located on Emerald Lake in the Temagami region. I believe he was a fireman there. My father said that he was responsible for the explosives in the mine. The move to the farm in Innisfil came shortly after world war II was over. If you try to find its location today try looking for the Friday Harbour Golf Course. The farm doesn't look anything like it used to. The Friday Harbour development dredged an enormous amount of material out of the new harbour and it was used to make the new hills and terrain of the golf course. All the original buildings have been demolished and removed.
